Please keep

brick streets

I am calling to express my concern over the bricks on Main Street. I, and many others, hope they will help us keep them. Poplar Bluff is moving toward building large shopping centers and various other buildings toward north of our city. Wouldn't it be really nice to preserve our historical history that has made Poplar Bluff? There's so many things being torn down and I'm so grateful that they have preserved our railroad steps. And so many other things they've done to destroy and then fixed them. I just hope and pray that we'll be able to keep and repair our bricks and we keep 'em. Thank you.

Cuts hurting

Current River

This is a comment about boating, floating and camping on Current River. With the new rules of less trash pick-up and with no dining in the moonlight at Big Spring Park and so many other things the Park Service has cut back on, it makes me wonder what the future's going to be and what a difference this is gonna make with so many flies and trash and dirt that will be left along there. Already we know Current River on the 10 worst endangered rivers list and especially if they'd check the urine on a hot summer day and check the river we'd be greatly surprised down below the bridge at Big Springs what the urine count would be. So I expect that the boating and floating and the mess is gonna really be a sight before this summer is over. We go back and we wonder well, who's making the money and where has all the money gone that used to be? Could we not answer that. It went to the petroleum companies and to the big places that have billions in profits while the rest of us hurt. Current River will never be the same in my opinion and nothing like it used to be when the water was safe and pure.

It doesn't

say get drunk

This is in reference to state license for Wine/Dine. Where, anywhere in there, did they say they were going to have a bit to eat and get drunk and have a good time? They're raising money and to pay you back for donating $10 they are gonna let you eat and have a glass of wine. No where in there does it say get drunk, Christian or not! Lady, if you're really a Christian give people some common sense. Leave 'em alone.

Visitors enjoy

brick streets

We recently had a visit from my grandson and wife from San Francisco. We took them on a tour of Poplar Bluff. They were very impressed with the brick streets and wanted pictures to take home and show friends. Most residents of Poplar Bluff think of the brick streets as a bumpy ride and some want to pave over them. Visitors see them entirely differently. They are a historic part of our city and unique to Poplar Bluff. Please keep them as they are as we love showing them off to our grandkids. We don't mind a bumpy ride now and then.
