Korean vet: Thank God for U.S.A., citizens

Monday, May 20, 2013

Dear Editor,

I am an 80-year-old Korean War veteran; recently I ordered me a cap with U. S. Army Korean War Veteran 1950-53 embroidered on the front of it along with all my ribbons except two of them. I added the Korean War service medal ribbon under the other, and plan to add the good conduct ribbon. Recently I was wearing my new cap while visiting my sister in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. A young man came down the hallway, stopped and gave me a real sharp military salute. This made me proud of being a Korean War Vet. In addition May 4th, my wife Shirley and I were eating lunch at the restaurant on 53 Highway--the one across from County Mart and I was wearing my new cap. I am hard of hearing even with my hearing aids and didn't quite understand what a young man was saying. When Shirley and I were driving out of the cafe parking lot I asked her what did that young man say to me. She said, "Oh, he was thanking you for what you have done for him."

Words cannot tell how proud I am to be an American, living among such wonderful people especially these young men and this younger generation like my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thank God for the U.S.A. and the people that live here.
