Presidential libraries a good place to visit

Friday, May 10, 2013

To the Editor,

I do not know if readers of this article are interested in presidential libraries, or have been to one. I watched with interest last week when former Pres. George W. Bush was opening his library in Texas. I thought it so very interesting to see the President and all the former Presidents together. And all the wives were there also. So lovely.

I have been able to visit four presidential libraries. Years and years ago, visited Hoover's in Iowa. I remember that library as not being too large. Then Eisenhower's in Kansas. Could spend all day in that library. My grandson, Corey, took me to Truman's in Independence, Mo. Corey was very surprised that the library was so interesting. My grandson, Michael, took me to Clinton's in Little Rock, Ark. Wasn't done, but still very interesting.

I know I shall not be able to visit Bush's in Texas. But I have seen Bush. Come to think of it I have seen Nixon and Kennedy. Know I will not see those libraries. Probably people do not think of going to the presidential libraries when they are planning trips for their vacations. But they should. That is such an excellent way for children to learn the country's history. Who was president when many things happened. So real!! Much more interesting than from a history book. Makes no difference whether we agree with what that president did or not.
