50/50 view of DAR editorials

Yes. I was calling about a couple of things. The editorial on Jim Brown, which I thought was very good, and also the editorial on NORDYNE closing in Sunday's paper for March 24th. I had a Speak Out about the out of control dog people, but that never did run. But, the Jim Brown editorial I thought was very good. Apparently most accusations against him unsubstantiated, but he got fired anyway. You might want to ask the superintendent some questions. You know he might be very reluctant to answer some questions, but you might want to ask him some questions--the superintendent, you know, he might be very reluctant to be interviewed. But on the NORDYNE thing I kind of disagree with that editorial. It may be more than a bump in the road. If you've got a job, it's no big deal. You know, NORDYNE's no big deal. If you're losing your job, it's a big deal. Until you find another job and figure out how you're going to pay your bills, it's a big deal. I feel really bad for the NORDYNE people. I think it's more than a bump in the road.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: Sorry if you misunderstood our position. We certainly don't take the closing of NORDYNE lightly and we, too, have friends who work there. We understand what a hardship it was for them, just as it was for the employees of Rowe Furniture serveral years. What we are saying is that even with that bad news, Poplar Bluff has many things going for it right now and when good things are happening the economy has a way of righting itself.)

Jobs fleeing

United States

I really feel sorry for the 500 families that will be affected by the closing of I don't know why people around here won't learn. Now with NORDYNE maybe they will wake up and realize the politicians they vote for are the ones helping big business ship jobs overseas so the corporations and rich can get even richer and to heck with the poor. Why do people like that vote for ones hurting themselves?, so to stay competitive they have to build a $40 million plant in Mexico. I guess the workers will work for $2 an hour and there sure won't be have to worry about pollution or anything like that. I got on the Internet and looked up Nor-Tech--that's the parent company of I don't know why people around here won't learn. Now with NORDYNE maybe they will wake up and realize the politicians they vote for are the ones helping big business ship jobs overseas so the corporations and rich can get even richer and to heck with the poor. Why do people like that vote for ones hurting themselves? The best I could figure out is Nor-Tech has an $86 million profit last year. I guess that's just not enough money for them. Emerson Electric, Kennett, Mo., moved to Mexico. Malden plant moved to I don't know where--Vietnam. They both moved to a foreign land. It's gonna be hard to find anything made in America any more. Politician love to talk about cutting welfare for the common man. They try to pass laws that weaken unions and lower your pay, but what about corporate welfare and corporate greed? What really needs to be outsourced are the politicians. Since 1994, and the passing of NAFTA, the manufacturing base in the United States has been in shambles. It won't be long before the only jobs will be the prisons or the casinos. I truly pray for our country.
