Council: 'Thank you' for passing sewer bond

Thursday, November 15, 2012

To the Citizens

of Poplar Bluff:

Thank you! The recent sewer bond measure that was passed will help us keep the sewer rate as low as possible. Rest assured that we will do everything to have the plant project come in on budget or below. After all we pay the same rates as you, the people we serve, pay.

We didn't expect opposition to this measure because it was mandated by the State of Missouri. We have to upgrade the plant or pay monetary penalties along with not being allowed to hook up any new customers. You, the citizens we serve, understood that and have put us in a position to reduce the impact on all our back pockets. No one likes increase cost of any kind, but if this measure had failed an average sewer bill would have been $3 to $5 dollars per month higher just because of the interest rate we would have to pay.

Again, thanks for taking the time to understand this issue which had a lot of mud thrown at it, and supporting your City Council on this matter. It is truly an honor to serve you.

Respectfully,

Mayor Ed DeGaris

Mayor Pro Tem Susan K. McVey

Ronnie D. Hendrix, 1st Ward Councilman

Betty Absheer, 3rd Ward Councilman

Johnny E. Brannum, 4th Ward Councilman

Robert L. Smith, 5th Ward Councilman

Loyd Matthews, Councilman At Large
