Twisted priorities?

Thursday, July 19, 2012

To the Editor:

On July 11, 2012 the U. S. House of Representatives voted to repeal the Affordable Health Care Bill by a vote of 284-185. House leaders say there is nothing more important than this repeal. Now wait a minute-this is the 33rd time that the House has voted on this measure since 2010. Estimates state that it has cost the taxpayer 50 million dollars to have these votes, and that it has taken about 80 hours of the House's time. 80 hours is two weeks work for most of us and probably a month's work for politicians. It is important to realize that the repeal is doomed in the Senate and by veto from the President. It is a symbolic gesture. In the worst economic climate since the Great Depression, it is deemed more important to defeat President Obama than it is to create jobs. The Jobs Act was introduced in 2011 and the U. S. House of Representative has sent this bill to 11 committees and have never had a floor vote on this issue in 18 months. Yet in much the same time period they have voted 33 times to repeal Obamacare. Priorities have become very twisted in politics.

Thank you,
