Wappapello food pantry says thanks

Thursday, June 21, 2012

To the Editor:

As with all food pantries, shelves are bare. The need to aid the less fortunate continues to grow.

On Wednesday, June 6, the Southeast Missouri Food Bank conducted a "stuff the truck" drive to help the hungry of Southeast Missouri. Lake Wappapello United Methodist Church food pantry was a recipient of the food collected by Larry Hillis Dodge in Poplar Bluff.

Our food pantry received approximately 2,200 pounds of food because of the big hearts of the Poplar Bluff community and Larry Hillis Dodge. A big "thank you" goes out to all who participated in the food drive. The food you provided was greatly needed and will help us to continue our mission of feeding the hungry. Larry Hillis Dodge not only provided a place and the trucks to deliver the food but also contributed additional funds to help buy meat products. Thank you.

Also, thanks to the youth group of the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff. Approximately 20 kids came to deliver, unload and sort the food you provided. They were fast, friendly and a true joy as they completed their mission to aid in this endeavor.

Again, thank you all so much for your caring hearts.
