American flag

deserves honor

As noted on page 7A of today's Daily American Republic, June 14th is Flag Day. A summary of flag etiquette is given on that page. Next time you attend a parade observe how very few parade onlookers stand at attention when the flag held by the honor guard passes in front of them. Also observe how many folks display the American Flag incorrectly. It's a shame how very few people stand at attention when the American Flag passes in front of them at a parade. I've looked around. I've stood at attention, my wife and I, and those standing around me usually stand when they see us stand and then you look down the street, up street, whatever, and you'll see maybe three or four people will stand when the American Flag passes in front of them, but most folks just continue their conversation and don't even have any respect for the flag at all.

Also you'll notice how many people will display the American Flag incorrectly against a wall or their door with the stars on the wrong side -the right side instead of the left. I just thought I'd make that a matter and get it off my chest.

Social Services

running wild

The title-DSS running wild. This is a short message to Children's Division. Absolute power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. I'll be exposing a lot of dirty laundry in the next few weeks, so be prepared.

V-ball awards

were strange

Hi. I attended a volleyball awards banquet Monday night at Puxico and I noticed something that was strange. Awards were given out to girls who didn't play a game during the season and those who did play the game during the season got nothing at all. Maybe things are different now. When I played sports, those injured didn't get "most injured player" and those who did go to practice and played the game got something. Even if they weren't the best at spiking or setting or serving . They got something-a ribbon, a certificate, something. Even if it was a little something that said, "Great job! Thanks for being part of the team." I just thought it was unfair and it was kinda disappointing to see that.
