PIEDMONT, Mo. -- Dorothy "Dot" M. Riddle, 87, of Arnold, Mo., formerly of Piedmont, Mo., died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Woodland Manor Nursing Center in Arnold, Mo.
Mrs. Riddle was born on March 5, 1925, to the late William Pratte and the late Rinda (Armstrong) Pratte, in Flat River, Mo. She graduated from Esther High School in 1943. Immediately following high school she became employed by the Hager Hinge Company in St. Louis, Mo., where she worked until her retirement.
She purchased her own home in the Soulard area of St. Louis, MO. She then moved her mother in downstairs where she could care for her during her illness until her death. She spent a lot of time with her best friends, Ruby Arnold and Shirley Zook.
On July 13, 1966, she was married to Norman Riddle. Both had been previously married. Mrs. Riddle had no children, Norman had five. She loved Norman's children as if they were her own.
Upon their retirement they decided to move to Piedmont and built a home near Clearwater Lake. They would fish every day and then cook their meal together. She also enjoyed ceramics and baking. She was known for her fired chicken and German chocolate cake.
Mrs. Riddle was very close to her family, her niece, Irene, and great-niece, Debbie.
Surviving are one son, Larry (Pamela) Riddle of Arnold; four daughters, Sherry Dickman of St. Louis, Carol (Dennis) Armbruster of Herculaneum, Mo., Kathy Riddle of Cahokia, Ill., Diane Stinson of Fenton, Mo.; many nieces , nephews and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman Riddle; four brothers , Robert Pratte, Eugene Pratte, Melton Pratte, and Bill Pratte; four sisters, Evelyn Terry, Clara Stevens, Nettie Wright, and Naomi Morgan.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Piedmont.
