The Bee Hive Natural Food Store

Thursday, May 24, 2012

The Bee Hive Natural Food Store was originally opened in the late 70s when a couple who had relocated from California couldn't find natural foods in the area. Within a year, they realized they could not continue and decided to sell the store. That's when Betty Pruitt entered the picture.

Betty was employed by Montgomery-Ward, but word was out that the store was going to close soon, so Betty made a move and went to work for the owners of The Bee Hive. In 1979, Betty became the new owner.

The Bee Hive Natural Food Store is located in Sycamore Plaza, at 900 Ida Street, in Poplar Bluff, and specializes in a wide variety of organic foods, organic bulk cooking spices, natural herbs and vitamin supplements, body care products and aromatherapy oils. Betty also sells honey from local beekeepers. At Christmas, she carries baskets with body lotions and aromatherapy items. Many folks may be surprised to know The Bee Hive National Food Store has a large mail order business, shipping around the world to places like Paraguay and Alaska.

Betty appreciates her loyal customers of more than 30 years and welcomes all new customers who are looking for organic foods. The store is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
