Suckered by

fuel companies

Having recently purchased a new import to replace my 32-year-old car, I did some unscientific fuel testing in the area here. And, just putting in the regular grade of fuel in this little vehicle I averaged 30 miles to the gallon on just regular pump gas. But having been a mechanic in my career, mind you, I'm retired, I decided to try running premium fuel in the vehicle. And, strangely, fuel economy shot up to over 40 miles a gallon. Isn't it strange how we're being cheated at the pump in just the octane? To properly operate these new little whiz bangs that everybody is touting is going to save the world and why they're pushing hybrids at 40 miles to the gallon where when you give a vehicle the proper octane-strange-it will do it without all of the fancy electronics.

Just something people like to know, but then, again, I guess we've been suckered by the government and the fuel companies long enough that we just don't care.

What a waste

of geese

This is for the person who threw out all those geese on KK near CR 507 on Sunday. Shame on you! I'm sure there are a lot of people who would have gladly accepted them. They are really starting to stink now. What a waste! What a shame!

Church sign

was disturbing

I usually enjoy the signs our churches put out along out streets, but I was disappointed with one this week, saying, "Don't Be a Slave to Sin, Be a Slave to God." I'm afraid the church is missing the point. God is not a slave driver. He doesn't make us work for His love. We are the sons and daughters of God our Father. What father makes you a slave to earn his love?

I'm asking the church since it is located where everyone can see its sign to show God is Love, not a slave driver. This makes sinners ask, why should we go from one slavery master of sin to a slave master of Christianity?

You guys at

DAR are idiots

You know I'm looking at your Feb. 17th, Friday paper across the top where it says on Page 8B God Speed John Glenn. One could logically figure that he had passed away. How long have you people been in the newspaper business? This is ridiculous! And then to read the article and find out that he is alive and well and 90 years old in Columbus, Ohio. You know you people really take the cake. Do you put much thought in anything before you put this newspaper out? I didn't think so.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: Fifty years ago, Glenn's historic launch was delayed 10 times. Finally, they were set to go. Moments before blastoff, fellow astronaut Scott Carpenter messaged Glenn from the blockhouse: "God speed, John Glenn.)

Sen. Mayer is

anti-worker

In the DAR on Feb. 15th, Sen. Mayer had a column with his latest anti-worker report. For those people who didn't read it, Sen. Mayer is sponsoring Senate Bill (SB) 439 or as I would call it, Work for Less in Stoddard County Act. Mr. Mayer used the word fleeced twice and that's what's happening to workers now days.

In the article, he quotes St. Charles County electricians make $52.18 an hour under the existing prevailing wage law and he wants to modify that so an electrician in Stoddard County working on schools and stuff would be paid $20.29 an hour.

How about this kind of law, Sen. Mayer? Maybe you could work on this for us. It takes four years to become a journeyman electrician. It takes four years to be a lawyer. And, you being a lawyer and all, how about this? Any lawyer working in Stoddard County on schools or any public offices can only make $20.29 an hour. You think you could live on that, Senator Mayer?
