Help appreciated in a season of giving

To the Editor:

Over the course of three Fridays in November, the Poplar Bluff High School National Beta Club held its "Donut Days" fundraiser. As a community service group, Beta Club members are no strangers to helping out the community with their service. Betas would arrive at school at 7 a.m. and sell dozens of donuts to raise money for charity.

As this was our most successful Donut Days ever, we ordered and sold 177 dozen donuts, profiting $776.60. We were able to give $150 to help pay the hospital bills of Alexis Jenkins, a first grader at O'Neal Elementary School, who has been stricken with cancer, and $626.60 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

However, none of the bountiful giving could have been possible without the help of donations from Poplar Bluff's generous businesses and community members. Dr. Shahid K. Choudhary & Mrs. Nasira Choudhary, Dr. Imran Cheema & Mrs. Saadia Cheema, Dr. Naveed Siddiqui and Mrs. Naseem Siddiqui, Dr.. Jamshad Chaudhary & Mrs. Horein Chaudhary, The Bread Company and Dental Arts Group all donated money to help pay for the donuts.

In addition, the Donut House gave Beta Club a special discount. Employees also worked especially hard making up to 71 dozen donuts on one Friday morning.

PBHS Beta Club would like to thank these donors for their benevolence during this season of giving.
