Sugar now,

castor oil later

Well, anybody who lives in Poplar Bluff got their notice in the newspaper, right? Yeah, you saw it. Our electric bills and everything else connected with the public utilities is going up 10 percent. Well, as we can only guess, it's not that our local rates here are going up, but they are blaming it on other reasons. But, the reasons I'm going to use are simply this: that our agenda-drive president along with other reasons connected with the EPA's push for carbon sequestration across the nation are going to push electric bills even higher, so, yes, they're giving us the sugar right now, come January, from the castor oil they are going to have to force feed us a little bit later down the road. But, of course, we know what we can do come November next year, don't we, people? That's right. And, I don't have to tell you what that is, now, do I?

Proud of being union member

Yes, in response of "No Sympathy for NBA." I've been a union member for 33 years and I'm sure that I've probably supported whoever wrote this over the years. I don't imagine they have job. But, I'm not a Communist and I pay may fair share of taxes and I don't agree the way they portray unions. I know Poplar Bluff is not a big union town, but I'm proud of the being a union member. I think they are all wrong on this bill here. I'm not an NBA player and I don't make millions of dollars, but I do make a decent living and if they'd get off their butts they probably could, too. Thank you.

Welfare county living on rich man's budget

I want to be one of the first ones to call to comment about our City Council and our municipal utilities raping and pillaging and plundering the citizens of Poplar Bluff. Very disappointed in our leadership. I don't know how with one of the poorest counties in the area how we can afford to keep raising bills up because we need to buy electricity someone else. And, we're not efficient in our cable system. Why do you have 'em operate on the electric company in this town if you can't even provide all your electricity. We have to go buy it somewhere else. We assess our property at such a higher price so we can get our taxes all raised up. Man, so, everybody up there in City Council, so I guess they're living on a higher budget than everybody who's actually working for a living. I'm not really sure how this goes, but I know this in a welfare county how can you live on a rich man's budget? Thank you, City Council. You done it to us, again.

Cable, electric rates rising

No wonder everybody is going to the DISH Network 'cause every time you turn around City Cable is raising their rates and they keep raising electricity. Soon, we won't even be able to use it. Thank you.

Is city doing

deficit

spending?

City government must think that they're the federal government. Deficit spending? We haven't gotten the final bill for this mess yet. Hang on! Thank you.

Gotta have your priorities straight

There are many different socio-economic groups that make up our area. There are different beliefs. There are different ages. But, last night, at Santaland at the coliseum, I got to see certain sub-class of Butler County --those are the morons. The morons who brought their children out with sandals and flip-flops on to stand an hour in freezing cold weather. The morons who wore capri pants and tank tops and no shirt under their very thin jackets. Yes, they were all out in abundance last night. People bringing newborn babies out in the freezing cold with just a very light wrap on them. People who don't know that you should have hats and gloves, mittens perhaps, on children when they have to stand for a couple of hours in the freezing cold. Yes, they were all out in abundance last night. You could see them all. And, guess what? Some of them must run the Santaland because they decided, hey, it's a great idea to start 20 minutes late -- we have to wait for Santa. Not thinking that somebody had got to protect these children from their own idiot parents. Oh, yeah, did I mention so many of them would blow smoke in their kids' faces while talking to 'em. Yeah, they could afford the three or four dollars for a pack of cigarettes, but no they couldn't waste that money on gloves and mittens or perhaps even regular shoes for their children to wear. You gotta have your priorities straight, don't you? You've got to have a license to breed dogs, but you don't need a license to have children, so somebody has to police the morons. I don't think we're doing a very good job of it. Thank you.
