Monopoly

Allied Waste Services, an out-of-state owned company, is attempting to monopolize the local trash collection services in the Poplar Bluff area. In their attempt to do so they have purchased both local landfills, Butler Co. Landfill and Lemons Landfill at Bloomfield.

They have since closed the Butler Co. Landfill, thus cutting local jobs. This also forced the small local family owned trash companies to travel and use the Lemons Landfill at Bloomfield and pay very high dumping fees for using "their" landfill.

They are now going around offering what appears to be a "good deal" to use their service. But, if they drive out all the competition they will then be able to charge anything they want for their service!

As a citizen of Poplar Bluff you have the ability to keep this from happening by supporting your locally owned trash companies who support our local economy.

Passin' the buck

Yeah, I was calling about your response in Speak Out to running the gay picture on Don't Ask, Don't Tell --the two men kissin'. I'm not the one who called, but I'm glad someone did. You said don't waste your time calling us. Blame the politicians. We're just runnin' what they passed. Well, that's accurate to a point. Of course, you left a few things out. I'm no fan of the politicians and I'm not any particular fan of Claire McCaskill and a lot of cases the politicians are to blame, but the last I checked, unless there's something I don't know, the politicians don't run the DAR. And somebody made a decision about runnin' the picture of two men kissin' and it wasn't the politicians this time. That was a decision made by the DAR to run the picture of two men kissin' and I'm sure glad somebody called in Speak Out about it and I think this is one time where passin' the buck to the politicians and it shouldn't be. You all chose to run the picture, so have a real good day.

What are we teaching

This is to the brain-dead idiots in their protests against Wall Street. Wake up, you bunch of dorks! It's not Wall Street that gives you your Pell Grants, it's Congress! It's not Wall Street that made the problems in the banking problems, it's Barney Frank and his great social manipulation that said banks had to give their risky loans to idiots that couldn't repay the loans in the first place. So go after Barney Frank like Newt Gingrich said, "Put him in jail." But, you brain-dead dorks sitting on your butt in New York and other places around the country blaming Wall Street because FCIU and other organizations that are manipulating you brain-dead idiots, you can't figure that out. So, wake up, America. You're being used by a bunch of socialists that are trying to tear down America, but you can't figure that out on your own because you're too stupid. That's right. I'm using a word that you can't even figure out. S-T-U-P-I-D. Go back to college and ask your professors what that means because, apparently, they didn't indoctrinate you well enough to teach you what it meant. Your Pell Grants don't come from Wall Street. My goodness, you haven't figured that out yet? I swear, what has America come to? But, here, again, a bunch of these, as I say, dorks that can very easily be used by groups all across America at the drop of a cell phone. Yes, that's right. Ah! Goodness, what have we become as a country? But, then, again. when you look at what we are teaching in America, I am not surprised! `

Look at

others' views

I'm looking at last night's paper. I just happened to open it up. In Speak Out, "Gay Picture is Disgusting." I haven't seen the picture and I really don't care to see the picture. The first part of the article. I understand that people think different ways about different things. But, I guess what concerns me is your editor's note down here. Don't Blame Us, Blame the Politicians. They're the ones who allowed gay marriage, allowing gays to serve in the military, etc. What you see is happening more and more over the country. If you don't like it, don't waste your time calling us, call your politicians.

What I'm getting out of this whole editor's note is that whoever this is writing this is using this as their own little "Speak Out." I do have a nephew who's gay and, I know, it really disgusts me that I open up your paper and I read something like this. I mean I understand with Speak Out you let people vent themselves, but when you let one of your own writers speak theirs, then it's against something some people think, you know, is okay or is not okay--doesn't matter. I will no longer buy your paper. I think I will go to getting a different paper. That's all I wanted to say. I think whenever you put things in your paper I think you oughta look at other people's view is one thing, but when you it as your own view that's another. Thanks.

One big lie

Speakout:

I have just received notice of changes to my Medicare Advantage plan for 2012. These changes include an 11.3 percent premium increase, a 45 percent increase in stop loss as well as some drugs being moved into a higher tier which makes them much more expensive. All of these changes were approved by the Social Security Administration even though Social Security recipients have not received an increase in benefits for nearly three years. I thought Mr. Obama said insurance would be less expensive under his plan. Like most everything coming out of Washington these days, this also is a one big lie. Looks like retired folks will have to again choose between health care or necessities. There are only so many things you can cut back on and still survive. Until someone addresses corporate greed, the exorbitant charges by physicians and hospitals and people quit running to the doctor with every little pain the cost of health care will never come down.
