Dodging the

recession bullet

According to at least two of the local politicians, the recession has bypassed Poplar Bluff and Butler County. If it hadn't, I guess there would be even more foreclosures listed in the DAR and the people who have lost jobs when some of the local factories and businesses closed are also happy this area has dodged the recession bullet. This area is so recession-proof that additional tax relief was given to two local plants. I guess total revenue figures will be stable because of the artificially high assessments on homeowners and small businesses who don't have the money to legally challenge "the good ole boys and girls system." This is America and you can have all the justice you can afford--it's an open market, folks.

Inquiring minds

Hello, Speak Out. Noticed this little double column rant you put in the paper the other day. Now, mind you, I am quite a speed reader and am pretty eloquent at being able to read and I enunciate at a pretty proficient speed. But after going through it and trying to read as quickly as I could still couldn't even with a stop watch on me read that article under two minutes of time. So, I want to ask you this, was the rant put in there by one of your employees breaking on of your rules? Remember, do it in under two minutes. Or is it just that you couldn't fit one of the opinion articles in anywhere else and just slipped that article in anonymously into the Speak Out section? Inquiring minds want to know.

Elect new

congress people

If anybody gets a report on what your members of Congress are doing, they have no policy against insider trading on the stock market. No policy against conflict of interest. Folks, we can't keep electing the same people and except some changes. Let's get rid of all of 'em. Thank you.
