Bing Crosby, born Harry Lillis Crosby on May 3, 1902, in Tacoma, Wash., was already a recording star in 1941 when he first introduced Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" on a Christmas Day radio broadcast. Crosby's recording of "White Christmas" hits the charts on Oct. 3, 1942, and rose to #1 on Oct. 31, where it remained for 11 weeks, becoming the biggest hit of Crosby's career. In 1942, he sang the song in a Christmas movie entitled, "Holiday Inn," in which he starred with Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen. The movie remains a classic and is rerun on numerous television stations each year just as "It's A Wonderful Life," and "A Christmas Story."
