America's

4-letter word

The word "FEMA" becoming a four-letter word across America. In a recent move by FEMA, they are telling cities that have been damaged by tornadoes in the South that the shelters that were provided by FEMA will now cost them a half-million dollars each to keep. Mind you, this is after they've been constructed and this was to protect the students of their schools that were destroyed. Instead of providing the states and the communities the funding to keep the shelters, they're now going to providing the funding to tear them down after they have been built. Wasteful? Yes. In line with FEMA's basic policies? Yes! So the next time when a disaster hits your community think long and hard before you reach out for that wonderful government hand waiting to shake you with its death-like grip. What the government giveth; the government shall, and I repeat, shall taketh away.

America's

dirty secret

I'm glad that Dr. Oz was finally brave enough to nationally, publicly discuss America's dirty little secret. More and more of our food supply is being imported from China. China has no regulatory controls over how much poison is in their food supply. If they will give our little children lead-painted toys to put in their mouths, do you think they care any more if they give us poisoned apples to make our apple juice and applesauce or what have you? Next time you go to one of those big box stores before you give your kids Gummi candy you better look and make sure you're not giving them candy made in China. You know how far China is from America? That's a long boat ride to be buying cookies that were baked in China and sent over here. How do you think they keep them so fresh? Multiple preservatives and things that are not allowed in the United States. Things that we did away with 30-40 years ago. Because China is behind the curve on certain things. Maybe not manufacturing or electronics, but as far as keeping their own people safe, keeping their water and air supply? Yes, they are very behind. If we would refuse to buy talapia fish from China or apple juice that does not plainly say where it came from, I guarantee to you these big stores would definitely quit selling it. If we won't eat, they won't buy it from them. Case closed. How hard would it be to poison all America if we are just going to allow cheap foodstuffs to continue to flood our markets? 60 percent now of apple juice is coming from China. You better be very scared and when the cancer rates keep skyrocketing in America you can thank your own self. Oh, I saved a dollar, but you know I gave my kids cancer. I don't think it's a very good trade-off. But, check your food before you purchase it. Refuse to purchase foods that come from China. Thank you.

Ideas to help

curb the deficit

The problem with our deficit could be helped in a large part by two issues: the first is to stop giving checks each month to people who do not pay income tax. These checks coming from the Internal Revenue Service and is unrelated to the welfare checks these people get; the second is to tax all church holdings that are not directly related to religion. In other words, department stores and farm land that has nothing to do with religion. I see no reason why they should not be taxed and I've talked to attorneys and they feel that a lawsuit might be effective by someone who has no religion.

They are not

entitlements

In reference to the article, "I Ain't Payin' Enough," which was in Friday, Sept. 30 edition of the DAR, please, sir or ma'am, get your facts straight. Medicare and Social Security are not entitlements or giveaways. We pay for Medicare every month and Social Security is a fund that we and our previous employers have paid into for many years for benefits. Those two items are not giveaways. So, check your facts.
