Emerson says she's an advocate for PB

To the Editor:

One year ago, a national political figure came to St. Louis and told his supporters that Poplar Bluff is a sad place that has lost its ambition and vigor. I more than took offense to that remark - I got angry. The City has a vital economy which is an example to the rest of the state.

So when this paper painted the local officials who represent Poplar Bluff as all hat and no cattle, I was reminded of the way I felt one year ago. I want to again point out, as I did then, that Highway 60 and 67 reflect the hard work of countless advocates to bring federal funding to the area with a focus on economic opportunity and growth. Three Rivers College is expanding in crucial areas like its new Allied Nursing program. The industrial park bypass is a key factor in attracting new businesses. And from Briggs and Stratton to Mid-Continent Nail, the employers in Poplar Bluff know that they have ready, willing and able advocates at all levels of government.

We all have to pull together to make sure Poplar Bluff remains a wonderful place to live and work. At the local level and at the state level, we must overcome any challenges that stand in the way of this goal. And at the federal level, the people of the City can be assured they have a consistent advocate who will do whatever it takes to defend our successes and fight for more of them.

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann
