This is the day the Lord has made
In Psalm 118:24, “This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
I have heard this verse many times. Once, Christians would quote this each time at the beginning of worship.
Certainly, we are to praise God for each day.
Surely some of them will bring sadness in our lives, some hardship, sickness, joy and rejoicing.
I have been looking at the context (around verse 24) to see what day he is speaking about.
He is speaking about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Psalm 118:22-24. “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
We know this verse is talking about Jesus, from the words of Jesus in Matthew 21:42. “Jesus said to them, ‘Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’S doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?”
Sure, we are to rejoice in the Lord each day. We are to be glad the Lord has made it. He is in control of the universe and He has given us the choice today, to be holy as He is holy.
Today is the day we are to follow Him. We cannot go back into yesterday or forward into tomorrow. Live today for God and rejoice in this day. Being a Christian is the greatest life people can live. Let the world see that you rejoice in the salvation of the Lord, today!
In every life, there is sunshine or rain, happiness or sadness. Each day is a gift from God. Let us thank Him for the day and live life rejoicing. This is the day the Lord has made.
